Kindness Kounts Rally at Daniel Island School
Most people dont think of the R-word(retard or retarded) as hate speech, but that's exactly what it feels like to millions of people with intellectual disabilities, their families and friends. This word is just as cruel and offensive as any other slur.
Many young people around the country are taking a stand and raising awareness of the dehumanizing and hurtful effects of the words "retard" or "retarded" and are helping encourage Americans to think before they speak. Kindness Kounts at Daniel Island School is joining in the effort. This program has a goal of creating a greater understanding of all people and bringing our community/school together through awareness.
On March 31, 10-2:00 p.m. we are inviting all persons, young and old, to come to Daniel Island School and make your pledge to not use the "R-word." Our school goal is to get 1,000 pledges!
